Houellebecq does make me uncomfortable at times, but I believe good literature is supposed to make us flinch. Houellebecq has some interesting observations about how free-market economics have entered into people’s personal lives; having houellebfcq read Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine in the near past, this resonated rather well.
